Care Instructions

For Fondant Cakes

1. Storage:
   • Ideally, store fondant cakes in a cool, dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
   • If storing in the refrigerator is necessary due to perishable fillings, place the cake in a cardboard box or cake carrier to protect it from moisture and odors. Ensure there are no strong-smelling items nearby as fondant can absorb odors.
   • Before refrigerating, allow the cake to come to room temperature to minimize condensation when removed from the fridge.
2. Handling:
   • Always handle fondant cakes with clean, dry hands. Avoid touching the fondant excessively as the oils from your hands can cause it to become shiny or sticky.
   • When lifting or moving the cake, support the bottom tier with a cake lifter or by sliding a flat, sturdy object underneath, such as a cake board or cardboard round.
3. Transportation:
   • For transporting fondant cakes, place the cake on a level surface, such as the floor of a vehicle, to prevent tilting or sliding.
   • If possible, place the cake in a cake box or cake carrier to provide additional protection from bumps and temperature changes during transit.
4. Cutting:
   • Use a clean, sharp knife to cut fondant cakes. Wipe the knife with a damp cloth between slices to ensure clean cuts.
   • For intricate designs or decorations, use a small, sharp knife or fondant tool for precision cutting.
5. Serving:
   • Allow the fondant cake to come to room temperature before serving to enhance its flavor and texture. This usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour.
   • Use a cake server or spatula to transfer slices onto serving plates, taking care not to damage the fondant decorations.
6. Storage after cutting:
   • If there are leftover portions of the fondant cake, cover the cut edges with plastic wrap to prevent them from drying out.
   • Store leftover cake in an airtight container or wrap it tightly with plastic wrap to maintain freshness.
7. Moisture and humidity:
   • Fondant is sensitive to moisture and humidity, which can cause it to become sticky, sag, or lose its shape.
   • Avoid placing fondant cakes in humid environments or near sources of moisture, such as open windows, steam, or kitchen appliances.
8. Preventing drying out:
   • To prevent fondant cakes from drying out, store them in a cake dome or cover them loosely with plastic wrap.
   • If storing the cake for an extended period, consider placing a damp paper towel in the container to maintain moisture without directly touching the fondant.
